Steel Tracks in Shifting Sand, exhibition in Beltana

The Old Ghan Railway Heritage Trail is a captivating journey through outback South Australia along the route of the Great Northern Railway, also known as the Old Ghan.

Today, the Old Ghan Railway exists as a ghost railway and symbol of Australian heritage and enduring spirit, complete with remnant rail sidings, bridges, industrial relics, and abandoned depots and villages, all of which have a story to tell. Along the route, interpretive signage tells the story of the railway and gives insight into the extraordinary efforts undertaken to construct and operate a railway in some of Australia's most unforgiving terrain.

Recently, the OCA has produced new signage along the trail, with new imagery, text and design. This exhibition of historical imagery used along the trail invites you to explore the journey, celebrating the rich stories, diverse characters, and multicultural contributions that shaped this important chapter of SA history.

WHERE: The exhibition will be held in Beltana at the newly restored Royal Victoria Hotel, 3 First St Beltana.

WHEN: The exhibition will be open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, from 03 May until 31 May, between 10am-4pm.

LAUNCH: There will be a launch event held on Saturday 3 May at 2-4pm.
